Galena Creek Recreation Area is home to some of the best mountain biking, trail running, and hiking near Reno. About 15 minutes south on Mt Rose Highway, the trails are well maintained and offer nicely graded climbs, flowing singletrack, and creek access for when your four-legged hiking buddy needs a drink. This is a popular area, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the trails will be crowded – there is room for everyone. Trail maps are posted at the trailheads, but it’s a good idea to stop by the Visitor Center and pick up a map (or print one out in advance).
During the winter, the Galena Creek Visitor Center is open Friday through Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Galena Creek Recreation Area is open daily from 8am to 7pm.
